The Legend FTX : The Crypto's Top G Bribes Chinese 🇨🇳 Officials

Today's news comes with a side of scandal and a sprinkle of bribery. Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO and founder of FTX, has been hit with yet another bribery charge.

This time, he allegedly directed $40 million worth of cryptocurrency to "influence" Chinese government officials to unfreeze accounts belonging to FTX's sister trading firm, Alameda Research. Talk about a pricey unfreeze!

According to the court documents, Bankman-Fried allegedly spent months trying to access the funds by hiring lawyers to lobby the government, opening new trading accounts under false names, and even asking the exchanges to unfreeze the funds. But when all else failed, he decided to go with Plan B - bribery. Because why not, right?

The indictment doesn't name the exchanges or the firm that was being investigated, but we can only assume that the Chinese government officials were either very persuasive or very easily swayed by $40 million worth of crypto. Can't blame them though - we all have our price.

In addition to the bribery charge, Bankman-Fried faces a total of 13 criminal charges, including wire fraud, securities fraud, and campaign finance violations. It's safe to say that the once-dominant FTX cryptocurrency exchange has seen better days.
