The POGs you loved in the mid-'90s are making a comeback, and this time, they're joining forces with Ethereum-based NFTs and online games. Prepare to dust off those slammers and practice your flips because the playground is about to get a digital upgrade!

POGs first ventured into Web3 about a year ago on the Solana blockchain, partnering with collections like Solana's Okay Bears project. But now, they're ready to step up to the big leagues, joining the Ethereum blockchain in a thrilling NFT mint that corresponds with the debut of an online POG-slamming game.

Founder Kyler Frisbee told Decrypt that jumping over to Ethereum feels like "stepping up to the major leagues." With increased trading volume and liquidity compared to the Solana NFT space, who wouldn't be excited?

POGs NFT, a subsidiary of The World POG Federation, is collaborating with Origin Protocol's Origin Story NFT platform to create a custom marketplace for this spectacular drop. On April 6, they'll release 3,800 Ethereum NFTs, a mix of POGs and slammers, featuring unique artwork at a price of 0.049 ETH (about $90 as of now).

These NFTs won't just be digital collectables gathering dust in your crypto wallet. They'll be playable in upcoming Ethereum-based video games launching this summer! The first play-to-earn POG game, Stack and Slam, will debut on Solana this week, replicating the classic slammer-tossing playground experience with a blend of timing, skill, and luck.

Some NFTs will showcase artwork from popular NFT projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club and Moonbirds. Bored Ape holders can use or license their owned artwork for commercial products, while open-source Moonbirds artwork is free for anyone to commercialize. Other POGs NFTs feature projects like Neo Tokyo and Viva La Vandal.

But wait, there's more! Physical packs of Web3 project-themed POGs will be released in May via a token-gated platform. POG NFT owners can access this marketplace to purchase limited edition POGs based on the NFTs.

Frisbee's vision doesn't end there. He imagines a play-for-keeps physical game using NFC chips within the POGs themselves, automatically transferring tokenized ownership from the loser's wallet to the winner's. Talk about high-stakes playground battles!

The goal of POGs NFTs is to create digital collectables that complement video games while also embracing the nostalgia of the physical POGs experience. With the NFT expansion and celebrity partners, Frisbee aims to generate the right buzz for POGs' global comeback.
