10 Ways to play safe in web3
With the FTX incident upcoming everyone in the web3 space is concerned about security to prevent themselves from hacking. But why fear when we are here, Let us share 10 ways to be safe in web3. Lets rock 🤘🏻
1) Buy a hardware wallet -> This is non-negotiable. To make sure that your crypto is safe keep most of your crypto in cold storage to protect it from scammers. Check out Ledger and Trezor if you don't own a hardware wallet yet.
2) Never Keep > 10% on an exchange -> As said above, 2022 has been painful for the web3 community. 2022 taught us that we shouldn't trust a centralised entity. If you want to use a Centralised Exchange, limit your exposure to 10%.
3) Never Share your seed phrase -> The scammers and phishing scams want you to share your seed phrase but there's never a reason you should. Watch out for official emails. Always be skeptical for scammers.
4) Double Check Social handles -> When you interact with someone online : Check their social media handles letter by letter and be careful blue check marks can be bought 😉. Never share your personal info with anyone online, Better safe than sorry.
5) Always use 2FA -> Get two-factor authentication for everything you do email, exchanges or social media. Use a separate phone for this. It prevents getting sim - swapped being one of the most common scams.
6) Use a separate Computer for Trading -> Limit the surface area for malware with No chrome Plugins, No apps/programs, No saved passwords, No auto-logged-in sessions. Keep it as clean as possible.
7) Never Flex your wealth Online -> Even though it's on vogue : Never flex status symbols or wallet balances on social media. Countless people have been robbed after carelessly posting. This is real and underreported risk.
8) Use strong passwords, never reuse -> I use the LastPass password creation tool. Don't use birthdays or names, Never use the same password twice and never save your passwords in text documents. It might feel like effort, but you'll be grateful you took the extra steps.
9) Never open links from strangers -> Digital communication comes with risk. You never know who is typing the words that pop on your screen. Never click on links that a stranger sends to you. Expect everyone to be a bad actor!
10) Separate wallets for taxes -> At some point one has to pay taxes. Most people don't want to but the smartest thing you can do is keep those stored safely. Don't trade or reinvest funds that are meant to pay your tax burden.
